Instruction before going for Sandhan Valley

For Sandan valley there are two routes from Pune, 1st from Sangamner & another one is from Bota –Kotul which is a shortcut. If going to Sandhan for first time via Bota Kotul, during night time there is a high probability that you will veer off course, so prefer to go via Sangamner route.

If you have know- how of rappelling & climbing or if you have an expert in these fields travelling with you, then you don’t have to hire local Guide. You can lease out gear for rappelling from Pune or Mumbai which are available to you very easily.

If you require a local Guide, then you will have to bargain with them. In general they charge you somewhere around Rs.500-700 per person.

You will have to insist on the local guide to travel with you because sometimes they send their assistant with you, who lacks technical knowledge of rappelling. You will have to check quality and quantity of equipment’s available with the Guide.
Saturdays are generally rush time as many group of people are there for this trek, so there are points where you will have to wait at certain rappelling patches. So make it a point to start you trek as early as 9 am.

If you are accompanied by local guides then you will get good quality food at their home i.e Saturday breakfast & Sunday lunch. But during trek it is recommended that u carry your own food i.e. Saturday lunch & Dinner, Sunday breakfast. Local guides will serve only rice to you during trek.

Trek should always be done in this order ‘Samrad – Sandhan – Karoli ghat – Samrad’. Don’t attempt this route ‘Samrad – Karoli ghat- Sandhan- Samrad’ as the trek is up hill (ascending) and dangerous.

It is recommended that you don’t stay overnight in the valley, as there are chances of injuries due to rocks sliding.
You can do Samrad to Karoli ghat trek in one day but you wont be able to enjoy it .To enjoy this trek to its fullest make it a two days trek.

If you are travelling by bikes please keep the keys with you. It is highly recommended not to give your keys to guides or local people. The bike should be parked in a spot and chained properly.
