Forts

Rasalgad रसाळगड – Motorable road is directly go up to the base village Rasalwadi. From Rasalwadi one can reach to this fort in 10-15min.The top of this fort is almost a flat plateau. Temple of Godess Zolai, Deepmal, cannon, small lake are the fascinating spots on the top the fort.

Sumargad सुमारगड – One of the Trio, Rasalgad, Sumargad and Mahipatgad. Triangular shaped fort with all sides having sheer vertical rock faces. Difficult to approach, requires Rock Climbing skills.

Mahipatgad महिपतगड – From Dahivali its approx. 4hrs trek to Mahipatgad. Fort has dense forest at the top. Mandir, water tank, remnants are the fascinating spots.

Vasota  वासोटा – The Vasota Fort lies deep in the forests Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary कोयना अभयारण्य. Fort was constructed by Malwa king Raja Bhoja in 1170. Sightseeing: Babu kada, Nageshwar Peak, Mahdev Temple,

Mahimandangad  महिमंडणगड – Lesser known fort in the Jawali, Koyna कोयना region. Madhu Makarandgad मधुमकरंदगड – Madhu Makarandgad is Located in the dense forest of Javali near Mahabaleshwar. The chief attraction is its wide view from top, entire Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary कोयना अभयारण्य, Koyna backwater branches, Mahabaleshwar range, Pratapgad, on west side are Sumargad, Mahipatgad and Rasalgad. Pratapgad प्रतापगड – The fort holds a temple dedicated to Shivaji’s chosen deity Bhavani. There is a statue of Shivaji Maharaj inside the fort called Bale Killa. It is still in fairly good condition.

Ajinkyatara अजिंक्यतारा – This fort was mainly used as prison. It has one Maruti temple on the top. Motorable road is directly go up to the top.

Sajjangad सज्जनगड – Sajjangad is a popular place for pilgrims and followers of Ramdas Swami, the spiritual guru of Shivaji Maharaj.

Kamalgad – Kamalgad (literally lotus fort), also called Bhelanja or Kattalgad (literally death fort) is a square hill fort in Wai Taluka in Maharashtra, India.

Tiwaregad किल्ले तिवरेगड  – Lesser-known fort, located at Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary.

रत्नागिरी व सातारा जिल्हयाच्या सरहद्दीवर दसपटीतील सहयाद्रीच्या कुशीत तिवरे ता. चिपळून गावाच्या डोंगर रांगेत चिपळूणपासून सुमारे 25 किमी. अंतरावर किल्ले तिवरेगड आहे. सहयाद्रीच्या या रांगेत उंच टेबलासारख्या दिसणारा पठारवजा डोंगर म्हणजेच तिवरेगड. तिवरे गावातून तिवरेवाडी मार्गे {बैलमारव| घाटातून या गडाकडे जाण्याचा प्रवास सुरू होतो. घाट संपल्यानंतर पूर्वी उजव्या बाजूने पाल घाटातून पाली गावाकडे जाण्यासाठी पाऊलवाट आहे. तिवरेगडावर पोहोचता येते. गडावर देविची छोटी मूर्ती व चौथ-याचे भग्नावशेष दिसतात. गडावर जाण्यासाठी एकदिशा मार्ग निवडुंगाच्या साक्षीने पार करावा लागतो.

गड माथ्यावरून पूर्वेकडे पसरलेला शिवसागर (कोयना ) जलाशय, पश्चिमेकडील चिपळूण शहर, व परिसरीतील औद्योगिक वसाहतीचे विहंगमय दृश्य नजरेस पडते. गडाचे उत्तरेकडे मालदेव उठारासह सदयाद्री रांगेतील वासोटा, महिमंडणगड, परबत, चकदेव, मधु-मकरंदगड, रसाळ-सुमार-महिपतगड आदि दुर्गशृंखलांचे दर्शन घडते. तिवरे घाट पुरातन काळापासून प्रसिध्द असून देशावरून लमाणांचे तांडे या वाटेने कोकणात येत असत. बैलमारव घाट हा कोकण व पश्चिमघाट यांना जोडणारा महत्वाचा दुवा होता. याचमार्गे बैलांच्या पाठीवर माल लादून त्याची ने-आण चाले. म्हणून यावरून त्यास बैलमारव घाट अस्ो नाव पडले होते. (Source – http://www.cmcchiplun.org/html/tourism_11.htm)

Paligad – Unknown fort, very difficult to approach through dense forest. This fort comes under Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary.

 

Trekking spot

Vajrai Water Fall  वजराई  धबधबा – Vajrai Water fall is a totally unknown trekking destination near Kass.  All season waterfall, 800ft in height.Bhambavali is base village & the birth place of Urmodi River is start from Vajrai waterfall.Water flow from Kass lake creates this waterfall. Trek starts from Kass lake wall & you will have to follow the stream. To reach to the top of the water fall you will have to trek for 1 hour .During this trek you will have to cross big stones (boulders) while walking along the stream. From top you get the breathtaking views of this gigantic waterfall. Don’t do this trek during monsoon.

Petrieshwar (Petri – Bhagvan Shivpetershwaracha Gutta) – This located at Ambani village near Kass plateau on Satara – Kass Road. This is small hill with flat top. There is ancient cave of Bhagvan Shivpetershwara & Shivlinga. To reach the top of the hill, you have to climb a small rock patch. From top you get the breathtaking bird’s eye view of surrounding region.

Bhimachi Kathi – This famous for 1000ft waterfall, a huge pinnacle of Bhimachi Kathi, deep valleys, dense forest & Vadgaon – Bhimachi Kathi – Kudpan – Pratapgadh trek.

Hatlot Ghat – From Hatlot village a route descends towards Konkan which takes you to Birmani village. From Hatlot village keep walking ahead on the cart road. After one hour you will come across a small ghanghar wadi. Just before the ghanghar wadi there is a route which goes to the left and is the starting point of Hatlot ghat route. The route descends to Birmani village from where you can get transportation to Khed.

Kond nail – Kond nali is a pass (valley) to get down into konkan from ghonaspur. It takes you to birmani village in around 10-12 hours of contineous walk.

Radtondi Ghat – Radtondi ghat is an ancient route to descend from Mahabaleshwar plateau to the Par or Javli village. While attack on Javli, Shivaji Raje himself descended from Nisani chi waat and another troop descended from Radtondi Ghat.Before the famous war of Pratapgad, Afzalkhan also descended to Paar village via Radatondi Ghat. The route is wide, steep and through the thick forest. It takes approx. 1.5 hrs to descend from Met-Tale vilage to Paar village.

Sansani Guha (Robber’s Cave) – It is located on Mahabaleshwar-Tapola road near Parut phata. This place is also called Saati Ashra (Congregation of Seven Deities).

Parbat पर्वत – Accient temple of lord Mallikarjun & Tomb of Devotee of Lord Mallikarjun. From top you get the breathtaking views of Vasota, Nageshwar, Chakdev, Sumargad, Mahipatgad, Rasalgad, Madhu Makarandgad, Pratapgad, Mahabaleshwar range, Koyna backwater & Sanctuary कोयना अभयारण्य.

Chakdev चकदेव – Accient temple of Choukeshwar चौकेश्वर मंदिर, Chakdev Shidi (ladder), old Deepmal (lamp post) are the fascinating spots on the top. Around 300 feet of ladder is fixed at different places at the vertical cliff on the mountain on the way towards Ambavli (Kokan). Nageshwar नागेश्वर – Big Cave surrounded by dense jungle. You can approach by Three Ways. One is from Vasota Fort, Second is from Kusapur, Third is from Village Choravane which is in khed.
